Words with Addisyn

“Ap-ble, Ap-ble, Ap-ble!” She cried and pointed to the fridge.
She knew exactly where the freshly cut apples were that I had put away a few minutes prior.

“Apple? You want an apple?”  I asked pleasantly surprised.  When she looked up at me, her smile gave me a sign that we understood each other.  It was her first time saying “apple” and my heart soared at our communication breakthrough.

Addisyn has been saying a lot of words lately. Her newest is apple (pronounced ap-ble). She loves to point out and show me that she knows where my “noze,” “eawr,” “eye,” and “fee” are located. In the morning she picks up “bay-be” and squeals with delight for “papies”. She helps me wash the dishes with the “bubooz” in the sink and looks for her “shuze” when we are getting ready to go outside to play. At dinner she screams for “mo” broccoli and knows that bath, piggy, and pajamas means “nigh nigh” time.

Her words are much more than just words to me. They are signs of our relationship growing.  I haven’t quite prepared myself for the back talking, temper tantrums and the disobedience that the future will surely hold, but I have decided not to pass up the present by focusing on the future.  I have had simple and obvious reminders that life is too precious to not embrace her as often as possible: friends who have lost loved ones, children battling illnesses, and a work/life schedule that would make a grown man go off the deep end.  So when it comes to Addisyn, I don’t worry about tomorrow. Nope, today I am thankful for her words.

With Love,

Stacy
